LoC deployment: Kayani satisfied with troops' preparedness, morale
COAS paid tribute to the sacrifices of countless officers who lost their lives near the border.
RAWALPINDI:
As tensions along the Line of Control with India simmer, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Tuesday visited troops deployed along the defacto border.
According to a release from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Kayani was briefed by the local formation commander on the prevailing security situation and the state of high alert being maintained by the troops.
At the end of his visit, Kayani expressed his satisfaction with the state of the morale of the deployed forces and their operational preparedness and vigilance.
Last month, Kayani had called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif prior to his first address to the nation and discussed defence related issues.
Kayani had conveyed the military’s reservations over the LoC and border violations by India to the Prime Minister.
The LoC tension between India and Pakistan escalated after Indian troops were ambushed on August 5. Pakistan completely denied involvement at all levels and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif maintained his stance of desiring peace talks between the two countries.
Since the August5 incident, the two countries have been engaged in an exchange of fire near the LoC.
