MQM invitation for special cabinet meeting on Karachi taken back
MQM representatives say the government has made this decision under pressure.
KARACHI:
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar will not be included in the cabinet meeting to be held tomorrow, Express News reported Tuesday.
Earlier, Sattar had been invited to attend the meeting. In a press conference on Tuesday, MQM Rabita committee member Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui showed the official invite sent to Sattar.
MQM representatives said that the government has made this decision under pressure.
Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Chief secretary Muhammad Ijaz Chaudhry and the heads of intelligence agencies have been invited to attend the meeting on Wednesday.
An MQM representative said that despite their reservations about the decision to rescind Sattar’s invite from the cabinet meeting, the MQM will attend the meeting at the Governor house to be held at 3pm today.
He added that this move by the government is counterproductive in their aim to bring peace and stability in Karachi.
However – in protest - the party has decided not to take part in the one-on-one meeting between Sattar and Nawaz.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Karachi earlier today and plans to stay in the city for two days.
Security in the city was put on high alert to prepare for his arrival.
