Biosphere reserves: Govt revives UNESCO project
Revival will speed up process of declaring more sites as biosphere reserves.
ISLAMABAD:
Ministry of Science and Technology and Unesco have recently revived Man and Biosphere (MAB) Programme, an ambitious project of Unesco, in the country after a long dormancy. Revival of the programme will speed up process of getting declared more sites in Pakistan as biosphere reserves to set a scientific base for improvement of relationship between people and their environment, said an official of the ministry. A Unesco official said the ministry had asked the officials concerned to initiate and expedite consultative process for nomination of sites and preparation of dossier to get the same declared as biosphere reserves.
