The election authorities have set September 18 as the new date for polling in NA-25 Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (K-P) where by-election were postponed due to security reasons.


Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday notified new date for poll. A day earlier August 22 general elections, when 41 constituencies went in for by-polls, elections were postponed in NA-25 citing intelligence reports that terrorists can carry out attacks.


Also, the constituency was marked by an exhange of fiery rhetoric between Khan and Fazlur Rehman, indulged in character assassination of each other. D I Khan borders, North Waziristan considered a safe-haven for many outlawed militant outfits.

The seat was vacated by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman who had won from three constituencies in the general elections held in 11 May.

Imran Khan, the Tehreek-i-Insaf chief, has also been calling for army presence at all polling stations for the by-elections.
