Nawaz calls national security top most priority of govt

Prime Minister says national consensus is needed between political parties to solve problems.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that national security is the top most priority of the government and all resources will be used to ensure it, Radio Pakistan reported on Monday.

Chairing a high-level meeting called to review the overall security situation of the country on Monday, Nawaz said that all political forces must rise to the occasion so that national consensus can be reached on the matter.


The premier said that consensus was necessary to find an enduring solution to the problems faced by the country.

Amongst other things, the meeting brought up issues related to national security, including internal and external threats present in Pakistan.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Special Assistance to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and DG ISI Lt General Muhammad Zaheerul Islam were also present at the meeting.
