Illegal schemes: ‘MDA checking housing societies’ data’

MDA had already demolished 26 illegal housing schemes in the city in two months, says MDA assistant director.

MULTAN:

The Multan Development Authority (MDA) is verifying the data of housing schemes to act action against illegal housing schemes, MDA Assistant Director (Town and Planning) Muhammad Ahsaan Nawaz said on Monday.

He said that MDA had already demolished 26 illegal housing schemes in the city in two months. The authority, he said, had now started verifying data of other housing schemes in the city.

He said there were two types of illegal housing schemes- Those whose maps had not been approved by the MDA, and the other that start construction without permission from MDA. Nawaz said that MDA had introduced Fatima Jinnah Housing Scheme in the city. It comprised two phases, including a block for journalists. He said the allotment of plots in both phases had been completed.

He said 85 per cent work on the scheme had been completed. Most owners in Phase-I had obtained possession of their plots, he added.

He said that the MDA anti-encroachment department was not established enough to work independently. Therefore, it sought help form the city district government in taking action against encroachments and illegal housing schemes.
