The Frontier Corps (FC) on Saturday claimed it had killed seven militants and wounded 11 others in a firefight in Mand area, close to the Iranian border.

“The FC convoy came under militant attack in the Mand area. The FC retaliated, leaving seven dead and eleven injured, all militants involved in the attack,” an FC statement said.

The terse  official statement, however, did not give any detail as to where the corpses and injured persons were shifted. Hospital sources were also silent about the incident and offered no comment.

FC Inspector General Mohammad Ejaz Shahid appreciated the efforts of the FC personnel and advised them to remain alert in defending the security and integrity of the country, said the statement.

The FC will offer all sacrifices in defending the integrity of the country and making Balochistan a citadel of peace and tranquility, he said, adding that the miscreants would soon be brought to justice.

When contacted, the officials of local administration in Kech said they were unaware of any encounter in Kech district.

“We have heard blasts and firing but so far we have not been informed about the operation,” said a senior official in Mand tehsil of Kech on the condition of anonymity.

“Two of our Sarmachar (fighters) have been ‘martyred’ in a fierce clash with security forces,” said the spokesperson for the outlawed Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) Goharam Baloch as he called to media offices from an unspecified location.

The BLF fighters partially damaged two helicopters, the spokesman claimed.

The BLF’s spokesman said a large number of cattle belonging to Baloch tribesmen were also killed due to bombing in the area; while women and children also sustained injuries.
