Quality Control: Minister tells PSQCA to step up efforts
Zahid Hamid, has said that strict action would be taken against manufacturers of sub-standard products.

Federal Minister for Science & Technology, Zahid Hamid, has said that strict action would be taken against manufacturers of sub-standard products as per section 14 of the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) Act-VI of 1996. He made this statement on his visit to the PSQCA head office where he was briefed by the facility’s director-general, Pir Bakhsh Jamali, regarding its activities to ensure quality control of consumer goods. Hamid voiced his concerns regarding public complaints about contaminated bottled drinking water and directed the officials to ensure the quality of the products available in the market. He said that anyone involved in the production of substandard products may be fined Rs100,000 and sentenced up to one year in jail. Hamid further stressed the officials to develop international standards for the certification of ‘Halal’ products as this had a huge potential in the international market.
