Road accident: One killed, six injured in Malakand mishap
Driver lost control of passenger van due to failed brakes.
DARGAI:
One person was killed and six others were severely injured in a collision between a passenger van, a coaster and another car in Malakand Agency on Saturday.
According to Malakand levies official Abdul Ghafoor Khan, the accident took place in Malakand Top. “A passenger van heading to Mingora from Mardan collided with a coaster loaded with passengers before ramming into another car, leaving seven people injured. One of the injured succumbed to his injuries on the way to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Dargai,” said Khan.
Sher Bahadur, one of the injured passengers, told levies officials he was sitting in the front seat next to the passenger van’s driver, Umer Bacha. When the vehicle reached Malakand Top, its brakes failed and Bacha told passengers he would try stopping the van by ramming into a roadside rock, creating panic among commuters.
Khan added that Bacha managed to prevent the vehicle from plunging down the mountain, but collided with a coaster and another car. Only passengers of Bacha’s van sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital.
The deceased was identified as Rahmat Ali, a resident of Barikot, while three critically injured passengers were referred to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.
