House jobs: LHC stays dismissal of doctors

Earlier, counsel for the petitioners had submitted that the posts had been abolished in violation of PMDC regulations

LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Thursday stayed the dismissal of 62 doctors and allowed them to resume their house jobs. Justice Shujaat Ali Khan also summoned a representative of the Health Department and Punjab Medical and Dental Council by September 4. Earlier, counsel for the petitioners had submitted that the posts had been abolished in violation of PMDC regulations. He said doctors had been appointed as house officers on one-year contracts but the government terminated their contracts before the stipulated time was up. He said this was illegal, unconstitutional and violated fundamental rights of his clients. He asked the court to stop the government from terminating his clients.
