ISLAMABAD:

The wife of the gunman involved in the Jinnah Avenue standoff was sent on 14-day judicial remand by an Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday.

Amid tight security, the Islamabad Police produced Kanwal before ATC Judge Atiqur Rehman, who in turn sent her on judicial remand for 14 days and directed the police to produce her in court again on September 2.

On August 20, Kanwal was sent on seven-day physical remand, which ended on Wednesday.

Kohsar Police Sub Inspector Abdur Rehman requested the court to send Kanwal to jail, informing the judge that the police had completed its investigation.

The court also ordered the police to hand Kanwal’s children over to their maternal grandfather. Kanwal and her husband Muhammad Sikandar have been booked by the Islamabad Police on charges of terrorism and attempted murder among other counts.

During proceedings, Kanwal also submitted a bail application, which the court will hear on August 30.

Earlier, in a statement to the police, Kanwal said the couple had stayed at an Aabpara hotel in Islamabad for two days. She said her husband had been a drug addict up until 2009, after which he sought treatment.
