Power theft: 496 cases registered
Sources said that the police were investigating 186 cases of power pilferage and 29 of gas theft.

As many as 496 cases of power and gas pilferage have been registered in various police stations since June 29 to date. Official said the cases were registered at the requests of Wapda and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL). The police have booked 423 people in power pilferage cases including 24 in commercial units and 399 domestic consumers. Forty-six cases of gas theft - 37 domestic consumers, six commercial users, three industrial units - were registered. As many as 456 persons managed to get pre-arrest bails. Sources said that the police were investigating 186 cases of power pilferage and 29 of gas theft. In Multan, a task force to curb power theft caught 63 alleged electricity thieves on Wednesday. Mepco authorities submitted applications against 390 people at local police stations.
