Climbing The Ladder: CCPO’s reply sought on promotions of 14 policemen
A total of 144 constables were not granted promotions under this notification.
PESHAWAR:
Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday sought a reply from the capital city police officer (CCPO) as to why he did not issue promotion orders of 14 sub-inspectors for extraordinary performance.
A two-member division bench comprising Justice Malik Manzoor Hussain and Justice Ikramullah Khan sought the explanation after the applicants’ counsel, Advocate Shah Nawaz, told the court his clients were promoted for exhibiting good performance during 2004, 2006 and 2010.
“The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa inspector general of police (IGP) issued a notification on June 17 stating the police officers would be given certificates and cash prizes instead of promotions. The CCPO also stopped the promotion orders of those policemen who were promoted before this notification,” added the advocate.
A total of 144 constables were not granted promotions under this notification, but 14 constables’ promotion was reinstated. The counsel informed the said notification did not apply to the applicants. As a result, the court admitted the application and sought a reply from the CCPO in the next hearing.
