Anand Abduction Case: ATC acquits ex-serviceman, aide

Anand was released after a negotiated ransom of Rs16 million was paid.

KARACHI:
An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) acquitted an ex-major of the army and his accomplice on Monday in connection with a kidnapping for ransom case involving the renowned filmmaker and Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla’s uncle, Satish Anand.

Judge Bashir Khoso of the ATC-I acquitted the ex-army major, Haroon Rasheed, and another man, Muhammad Nawaz Khan, after the prosecution couldn’t establish charges against them.


According to the prosecution, Anand was kidnapped by unidentified men on October 20, 2008, while he was on his way home in the Defence area.

Subsequently, Anand was released after a negotiated ransom of Rs16 million was paid.
