Five colleges in rural areas to become operational by year-end

Despite the failure of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to include development projects in the current fiscal’s Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), the Planning Commission (PC) has released funds for five colleges in rural areas of the Capital.
According to a top official at the Capital Administration and Development Division (CAD), the commission has released Rs14 million for the Federal Government Degree College for Men, Sihala. The official said that full-fledged classes in the college will commence from September 15 and the construction work on the remaining part of the building has been expedited.
The PC-I of the project was approved in 2008 to upgrade the higher secondary school into a degree college.
Similarly, the Federal Government Fatima Jinnah Degree College for Women, Humak, is all set to start intermediate and bachelors classes from September, the official said. The Federal Government Degree College for Girls, Sector I-14, is all set to start classes from September 15 and it will cater to the needs of 76 adjoining villages.

The college building holds over 1,500 students current, compelling many of them to take classes in the open space. The official said that Rs11.12 million has also been released for the renovation of the Islamabad Model College for Girls, Sector F-7/4.
