KARACHI:
Unidentified gunmen opened fire near the area of Safari Park, Karachi killing Ahle Sunnat Waljamaat (ASWJ) spokesperson on Sunday, Express News reported.
Reports suggested that the ASWJ spokesperson Maulana Akbar Saeed Farooqui was returning from a rally organised by the organisation in Lasbela Chowk when the gunmen opened fire near University Road.
Farooqui was immediately shifted to Liaquat National Hospital where his condition was declared to be critical. Sources from the hospital confirmed that Farooqui had suffered two gun wounds in the head.
Supporters of ASWJ soon surrounded the hospital where the spokesperson succumbed to his injuries.
"Doctors had declared him to be in a critical state and had refused to provide any assurances," reported Express News correspondent Nadeem Ahmad.
"The gunmen were astride a motorcycle and could not be recognised because they were wearing helmets," said Ahmad, adding that they fled soon after the incident.
