PFF to reconsider current security arrangements
Karachi stadium under inspection ahead of AFC U16 qualifiers.
KARACHI:
The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) will make an inspection and reconsider the security arrangements of the Peoples Stadium in Karachi, ahead of next month’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U16 Championship qualifiers.
A PFF official said the federation is also looking into the possibility of changing the event’s venue from Karachi to Lahore. The reconsideration came after a blast in Lyari on August 8, the stadium’s adjacent locality.
The event will feature teams from Iran, Sri Lanka and the UAE in Group D besides Pakistan.
“We will be running the inspection this week, and will also talk to the Karachi police,” the official told The Express Tribune. “We have also spoken to the Punjab government and they have responded positively to our request.
“The AFC has trusted us with the responsibility to hold the event, and this should not be taken lightly.”
