LAHORE: The Punjabi Café was inaugurated by the Punjabi literary critic, Shafqat Tanveer Mirza, on Wednesday.

The café that is situated in the Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture (PILAC) aims to provide poets, artists and intellectuals a platform for literary discussions, seminars and other activities. Though the artists will hold discussions from 8 pm to 10 pm, the café will be open to the public from morning.

The PILAC director, Sughra Sadaf, told The Express Tribune, “The idea behind the Punjabi café is to have a place where artists can sit and share their work and ideas, just like the Pak Tea House.” She added that artists and intellectuals had appreciated the initiative.

After the inauguration, Mirza said, “We need to introduce the new generation to art and literature. We are producing doctors, engineers and computer programmers but they lack human values. A platform like this (café) will play an important role in doing just that.”

Author, Khaqan Haider Ghazi, said that he hoped that a social change could be brought about as a result of the discussions.

Ata-ul-Haq Qasmi, Hussain Shad, Ajmal Niazi, Mudassar Iqbal Butt, Salman Saeed, Madeeha Gohar, Altaf Hussain Qureshi, Anis Nagi, Mudassar Iqbal Butt, Sofia Baidar, Neelam Ahmad Bashir, Khalid Ahmad and Jamil Ahmad Pal also visited the café on Wednesday evening.
