The Sindh government has directed the district administration, officials of irrigation and disaster management authority to be on high alert and remain vigilant to cope with any disaster-like situation.

These directives were given during a cabinet meeting held at CM House on Tuesday. The meeting continued for about five hours but no one from government side briefed the media about the decisions.According to some officials, the chief minister was given a briefing on the gushing water coming from the Punjab and forecasts of heavy rains in the province. The CM directed the chief secretary to issue a circular informing the officers to work in a state of emergency.

“President Zardari is about to arrive in Karachi and we have to brief him about the arrangements,” said a senior official, quoting chief minister Qaim Ali Shah. “If any officer is found negligent, please take strict action against him irrespective of how influential he is.”
