Mourning a loss: Slain policemen laid to rest at their hometowns
Two constables were gunned down near a check post on Sunday.
SWABI:
Two policemen killed in Sunday’s militant ambush on Jehangira Road in Swabi were laid to rest in their hometowns on Monday.
Senior police officials attended their funeral held at Mozan Bachaye and laid floral wreaths as guard of honour was presented for both the slain men. The officials were killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a police check post on Jehangira Road. Another constable and a passerby were also injured in the encounter.
A Swabi police official said constables Sabz Ali, Jawad Khan and Saddam were present at the check post when armed men on a motorcycle opened fire at them at 10:30pm. Ali and Khan died on the spot, while Saddam and a pedestrian identified as Izhar sustained injuries.
Soon after the incident, DPO Dr Mian Saeed and SHO Noorul Amin rushed to the spot along with their teams and launched a search operation while an FIR was registered against unidentified assailants. The injured were taken to DHQ.
Head Constable Sabz Ali Khan of Yar Hussain police station was the brother of Investigation Officer Zarif Khan while Jawad Khan the son of senior Wapda official Naras Khan.
Meanwhile, DIG Mardan Muhammad Ali Babakhel has ordered to beef up security in the district, assuring police will continue serving the people. While talking to journalists during his visit to Swabi jail along with the DPO, the DIG asked jail authorities to increase security on the roof of the prison.
“Morale of the police has increased and the attacks cannot deter our resolve to provide protection to the people,” said DIG Ali. Officials also met prisoners and promised to address their concerns.
