Aleem Dar wins Umpire of the Year at ICC Awards
Aleem Dar won the Umpire of the Year award for the second time in two years at the ICC Awards.
Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar won the David Shepherd Trophy for the second time in two years after being named Umpire of the Year at the ICC Awards in Bengaluru.
Aleem Dar, who has umpired in 60 test matches and 133 ODIs, had also won the award at the 2009 ICC Awards in Johannesburg.
Dar was voted for this award by 10 full member captains as well as an eight-man elite panel of ICC Match Referees, based on his decision statistics and officiating skills over the past 12 months.
On receiving the trophy from Chris Broad, Dar said, "I think the fact that I'm still playing cricket in Pakistan makes me a good umpire, in the last four times I've played cricket I scored centuries so I definitely think that has helped. I'm honoured to have been named winner for second year in row."
Dar beat strong competition from his colleagues on the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires including Steve Davis, Tony Hill and five-time ICC Umpire of the Year Simon Taufel.
Dar started his international career as an umpire in 2000 and joined the Elite Panel in 2004.
