ISLAMABAD:

An accountability court on Friday extended the physical remand of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Orga) ex-chairman Tauqeer Sadiq by further two weeks and directed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to produce him on August 30.

It was the fourth extension in the remand of Sadiq, the main accused in the Rs82 billion scam in Ogra. He has been in NAB’s custody since July 10.

During the course of hearing on Friday, NAB Deputy Prosecutor General Barrister Saeedur Rehman requested the accountability court to extend the physical remand of Sadiq for interrogation.

Sardar Asmatullah Khan, counsel for Sadiq, opposed further custody of his client and requested the court to release him on bail. However the court rejected his plea.

On the last hearing Rehman had informed the court that the finance department of Ogra had provided fresh evidence of Rs26 billion worth of misappropriations.
