Health scare: PHC judge suffers heart attack

Justice Nisar Hussain admitted to LRH, said to be in stable condition.

Peshawar High Court (PHC) judge Justice Nisar Hussain was admitted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) on Friday morning after he suffered a heart attack in his chambers.


Justice Hussain is being given treatment at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) in the Department of Cardiology at LRH and doctors have advised him to stay in the hospital for two days.

LRH spokesperson Jamil Shah said, “Justice Nisar’s condition was very critical. It was a major heart attack, but fortunately he was brought to the hospital on time.”


The spokesperson added doctors have placed a stent (a tube to keep arteries open for treatment) and Justice Hussain was in stable condition.

PHC Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Musarrat Hilali along with other judges and lawyers visited LRH to inquire about Hussain’s health.

Justice Nisar Hussain belongs to Mansehra. He was appointed as an advocate in lower courts in March 1987. After two years, he was appointed as an advocate at the PHC and in August 2003 as advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

On August 2, 2011 Justice Hussain was elevated and appointed Additional Judge at the PHC.
