Bloodbath: NA passes resolution against massacre
Pakistan called for the immediate release of political prisoners including ousted President Mohamed Mursi.

ISLAMABAD:
The National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution on Thursday expressing concern at the use of excessive force by Egypt’s security forces to quell street protests.
“This house expresses its full support for the brotherly people of Egypt and calls upon the government of Pakistan to convey to the government of Egypt its deep concern over the assault on unarmed civilians and the loss of so many innocent lives,” read the resolution tabled by Sahibzada Tariqullah of Jamaat-e-Islami. It further read that the government of Egypt should be urged to show restraint and should try to resolve the issue through dialogue with all the parties involved. FO condemns violence in Cairo.
The Foreign Office also condemned Egyptian authorities over the use of force against unarmed civilians which resulted in the loss of hundreds lives in Cairo and other cities.
A statement issued by the foreign ministry described the August 14 bloodshed as a ‘major setback for Egypt’s return to democracy. “As a friend and a well-wisher of the people of Egypt, Pakistan is closely observing developments in that country and urges all parties to exercise restraint and to respect the fundamental rights of the fraternal people of that great country,” the foreign ministry spokesperson said in a statement.
Pakistan also called for the immediate release of political prisoners including ousted President Mohamed Mursi.
The statement further said constitutional issues can be addressed through dialogue among all parties, in an inclusive and peaceful manner which would enable the country to successfully restore the democratic institutions, as early as possible.
“It is the earnest hope of the government and people of Pakistan that the brotherly people of Egypt with their patience, tolerance and fortitude, would be able to overcome their current challenges, in a manner that ensures sustained democracy, political stability, and economic development, while ensuring peace and well-being of the people,” the statement further reads.
Earlier, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan expressed deep concern over the killing of civilians in Egypt and urged the government to condemn the violence during the National Assembly session.
