The Supreme Court of Pakistan re-issued notice to the Election Commission of Pakistan and the ministry of law, justice and parliamentary affairs, on Thursday on a plea seeking contempt proceedings against them for allegedly not complying with the apex court’s orders.

Nasreen Pervez had taken the chief election commissioner and law ministry to court for allegedly not offering her a promotion, despite the apex court’s order. The petitioner claimed that she was working as the director-general at the election commission’s training and evaluation department. She retired after she was denied a promotion in April 2012.

Pervez then approached the apex court, which directed the ECP officials to promote her to grade 22, as the judges felt she was entitled to it.

On Thursday, a three-member bench, repeated the notice of contempt application to the ECP and the law ministry to file their comments. The matter will be taken up in next session.
