Disaster relief: Chief secy reviews flood arrangements

Punjab Chief Secretary Javed Aslam on Thursday directed the Health Department to ensure that snakebite and malaria vaccines are available in flood-affected areas.
He was presiding over a meeting to review flood arrangements across the province at the Civil Secretariat.
The chief secretary said mobile health teams should be sent to affected areas. He instructed the Livestock Department to provide vaccines for animals.
Aslam expressed his satisfaction over flood arrangements in the province and said that no casualty was reported due to timely evacuation of people in the flooded areas. He also reviewed the law and order situation in flood-hit places. He directed the divisional commissioners and district administrations to provide clean drinking water to people.
He said funds for rehabilitation and relief activities assured to Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). He said flood warning centres were working round-the-clock and people would be provided information through electronic and print media about the flood situation.
The chief secretary instructed the administration to monitor the flow of water in rivers and water channels and inform the department concerned in case of any emergency.
