LAHORE:
Lahore Electric Supply Company’s former chief executive officer Muhammad Saleem has been reinstated as the company’s technical director in compliance with an order passed by Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
A notification issued by Lesco human resource director said, “In pursuance of the decision of the honourable Lahore High Court… Chief Engineer Muhammad Saleem is hereby posted/restored as Lesco’s technical director.”
The chief justice had issued the order for the reinstatement of the former Lesco chief after it was established that the authorities concerned had not followed the rules when they made Saleem an OSD.
The CJ was hearing a petition against unannounced electricity load shedding in the Punjab when the matter about transfer of the former Lesco chief was agitated before the court by the petitioner.
The chief justice expressed concern over the transfer of the officer when the authorities failed to come up with a reasonable objection for his transfer.
The CJ also directed the incumbent Lesco chief Arshad Rafique to tender an apology to Advocate Ilyas Khan for remarks against him and ordered him to expunge the remarks from the record.
Advocate Khan was Lesco’s counsel. The CJ adjourned further hearing till Sept 4.
Judicial Activism Panel Chairman Azhar Siddique had filed the petition against unscheduled electricity load shedding.
The petitioner had alleged that Saleem had been removed from the post for taking action against those involved in stealing electricity. He said Saleem had been made an OSD in violation of principles laid down in the Supreme Court’s judgments.
