DI Khan jailbreak: Absent officials directed to appear within 48 hours
54 people were not on duty when the July 29 attack took place.
DI KHAN:
Prison officials who were absent from duty when the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) attacked DI Khan Central Prison have been directed to report to the jail within 24 hours.
The employees summoned were on their monthly or medical leave when nearly 150 armed-militants stormed the jail in a sophisticated attack and freed nearly 250 prisoners on July 29.
DI Khan Superintendent Jail Binyamin Khan said 114 officials, including wardens and guards, were deployed at the jail, but on the night of the attack 54 were not present. Twenty-seven of those absent were on medical leave.
Some important changes have been made in the duties of officials since the attack, he said, adding all officials on leave have been told their vacations are cancelled.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held among DI Khan Commissioner Muhammad Mushqat Khan Jadoon, Station Commander Brigadier Mansoor Aziz, Deputy Commissioner Waqar Ali, DPO Nisar Ali Marwat and Jail Superintendent Binyamin at the commissioner’s office. An application was sent to the provincial government to deploy two Frontier Constabulary platoons on emergency basis at the jail.
Reconstruction work at the jail is expected to start soon.
