KARACHI:

The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), hosting a level-II course in Islamabad after a nine year gap, has sent out invitations to international officials for the week-long programme organised for the upgradation of coaches.

The course will be conducted under the supervision of the Asian Squash Federation (ASF) and Hong Kong’s Chris Clark, who will deliver lectures starting August 18 at the Mushaf Squash Complex.

“We’ve written to Asian countries about this coaching course and we are expecting international entries as well,” PSF Senior Vice President and ASF Vice President Razi Nawab told The Express Tribune.

“Chris will be coming for the course and hopefully we’ll have a good number of coaches from Pakistan and a few from other countries too.”

Nearly 30 coaches are expected to benefit from this course, designed to improve their knowledge regarding a player’s diet, while informing them about rehabilitation programmes for different sorts of injuries. They will also learn about exercises which should be followed to improve the standard of training and to perk up their technical and tactical side of the game.

It has been learnt that Fahim Gul and Pakistan head coach Jamshed Gul will assist Clark in the process.

The last time the PSF conducted a level-II course was back in 2004.

“This will be the first level-II course in Pakistan after 2004 so it has its own significance,” another PSF official revealed.

“By successfully taking part in this course, an official, along with being a coach, will also become half a doctor, physiotherapist, trainer and dietician.”

He added that the federation has been conducting refresher courses for the past few years, but a level-II programme will take the credentials of coaches to another level.
