Draft local govt bill: PPP and MQM end talks without consensus
Sindh Government's committee on local government bill discussed the draft bill to the MQM delegation.

The first round of discussions on Sindh Government's newly drafted local government bill between Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) ended without any agreement here on Thursday.
The meeting was held at the Chief Minister's house and was attended by Senior Sindh Minister for Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro‚ Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Minister for Law Dr Sikandar Mandhro. The MQM delegation was led by Dr. Farooq Sattar and included Faisal Sabzwari‚ Sardar Ahmed and Kanwar Naveed Jameel.
While the MQM contended that they wanted effective and powerful local governments as per the Article 140A of the Constitution, Sharjeel Memon maintained that the local government law of 1979 will be scrapped in favour of a new law.
The second round of talks will begin on August 17.
