LAHORE: The head coach announced the 18-member hockey team for the Asia Cup on Thursday, Express News reported.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Head Coach Chaudhry Akhtar Rasool and Coach Tahir Zaman announced that Muhammad Imran will resume his position as the captain, while Salman Akbar has been appointed as the goal keeper for the Asia Cup.

“Only those players will play who are fit and Salman Akbar has proved that he is fit to play,” Rasool said.

Former captain Waseem Ahmad and Rizwan Junior overcame their fitness issues and made it into the team.

Imran Butt, Muhammad Irfan, Muhammad Rizwan Senior, Muhammad Tauseeq, Rashid Mahmood, Shafquat Rasool, Shakeel Abbasi, Dilbar Hussain, Umar Bhutta, Farid Ahmad, Amir Shahzad, Abdul Haseem Khan, Muhammad Zubair and Ali Shan are also included in the team.

The Asia Cup will commence on August 24, while Pakistan will join the games on August 29 in Malaysia.
