Through this SMS service, all sorts of information related to one’s vehicle can be collected by sending the registration number on 7080. The service will cost Rs1.40 per SMS.
This project was started by the Punjab government during the previous rule, which was delayed. However it has been completed now.
Information related to token tax, income tax and other taxes that were paid during car’s registration can be collected via the SMS service along with other details, such as the owner’s name and who was it transferred to.
This service would be helpful to the excise taxation team in verifying who has paid the tax and who hasn’t, right there and then. Furthermore, it will make it easy for the car owners to pay the tax to the excise team right there and collect a token. The car owner will later receive an SMS validating the payment and the detail about the excise tax officer, area and payment.

@Ahmed: Initially this service will be available to Excise and Taxation team only. Later on Vehicle registration authorities will use this system as well. If this type of information will be available with one SMS to ordinary Public then it could assist blackmailers, extortionists etc who will simply get all the information for the name of the owner along with Tax Number and could later blackmail them or could take extreme action as well.

Information should be based on vehicle identification number (VIN) known as chassis number and engine number. Simple number plate, while allowing for tax payment verification, cannot tell you whether a vehicle was stolen or not. Number plates can be switched, VIN is much more difficult to change.

Good effort. The tax system should be made easier for people to pay, as well as easier for the authorities to gather who has paid and who hasn't There is a lot of evasion in motor vehicle taxes and I hope this step helps the govt tax cars, specially those 5million cars parked in that large driveway in Raiwind!
