Attack suspect arrested

Police nab suspect in connection with Sunday's terrorist attack on Nato oil tankers.

ISLAMABAD:
City police on Tuesday nabbed a suspect in connection with Sunday’s terrorist attack on Nato oil tankers in the outskirts of the city. While refusing to give the name of the suspect, SP Rural, Umer Hayat said that the suspect was the last owner of one of the motorbikes police had recovered during a search operation from the vicinity of the site of the attack.

“He was under-interrogation in the custody of the police, we cannot disclose the name of the suspect at this point in time,” he said.

Three people were killed and another seven were injured, while 13 oil tankers were gutted in the terrorist attack on oil tankers, parked near Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase-II in the outskirts of the city.

Police said, in future, Nato oil tankers will not be allowed to park near DHA Phase-II or any other parking in the city limits. The SP said that the Islamabad police was not responsible for the security of the convoys of Nato supply trucks, hence, in the absence of proper security the Nato convoys were always vulnerable to such attacks. He said that investigations into the attack were headed in the right direction and more arrests were likely in the coming days.
