MUZAFFARABAD:

The president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan said the recent unprovoked firing by Indian army on the Line of Control (LoC) would hinder the peace process in the region.

The AJK president was speaking to the media after hoisting Pakistan’s flag on Independence Day on Wednesday.

President Khan said ceasefire violations on the LoC by Indian troops would obstruct dialogue which would deal a blow to the ongoing peace process between the two countries.

He urged India to refrain from targeting civilians and requested United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, who is currently visiting, to mediate between the two neighbours.

Surprisingly, for the first time, not a single minister was present for Independence Day celebrations and the flag hoisting ceremony at the President Secretariat.

President Khan vowed to continue to support to the ongoing liberation movement in Indian Kashmir.
