Police seize counterfeit HP products

Hewlett Packard in global drive to combat illegal manufacturing, sales.

“With counterfeit HP print cartridges, customers purchase what they often assume to be a genuine HP product,” said David Llamas.

KARACHI:
Police teams, in collaboration with technology giant Hewlett Packard (HP), seized counterfeit HP products and over 36,000 components used to make such goods during recent raids in Lahore, the multinational said in a press release on Monday.

“With counterfeit HP print cartridges, customers purchase what they often assume to be a genuine HP product,” said David Llamas, the company’s Global Brand Protection and Anti-Counterfeit Manager (Printing and Personal Systems). “But they instead receive a cartridge that provides them with inferior print quality at best and often a cartridge that fails to perform at all.”

One of the world’s largest technology companies dealing in printing, personal computing, software, services and IT infrastructure, HP is running a global drive to combat the manufacture, distribution and sale of counterfeit HP products.

HP provided market intelligence to authorities who seized 25 counterfeit ink cartridges, 190 counterfeit toner cartridges and 36,265 components used to make counterfeit HP cartridges – all of them locally manufactured, according to an official.

Through its anti-counterfeiting efforts, HP is determined to protect its customers and its brand, Llamas said, adding they knew how the sale of counterfeit HP products negatively impacts their customers and the HP brand.

The technology giant is planning to extend its drive to other parts of the country.
