For managing post-rain crisis, a delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami demanded a survey of the affected neighbouring areas for rehabilitation and financial support to the victims during a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Sunday.
At the Eid Milan held at the CM house, the JI delegation, led by Sindh JI chief Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui, met with the CM after the programme to direct CM’s attention towards their concerns.
The JI chief expressed his concern over failure of the provincial government in tackling with the post-rain circumstances. “We believe that the provincial government has overlooked the destruction caused by rain in suburban areas, including Saadi Town, Amroha Town and Prem Villas,” Dr Siddiqui told The Express Tribune.
The delegation further requested the CM to lift the prolonged ban on pillion riding, imposed since last week of March, which had deprived the common man from affordable transport facility.
Dr Siddiqui questioned the impact of the ban since there was no stop to targeted killings. “The effectiveness of such a ban is in question in the face of law-enforcement agencies’ failure to curb targeted killings, which are still carried out by armed riders.”
He said that the CM would consider lifting the ban on pillion riding and would conduct the survey of rain-affected areas across Karachi as soon as possible.
