Moon sighted: Nation to celebrate Eid as one today

The Shawwal moon has been sighted and Eidul Fitr will be celebrated across the country on Friday (today), announced Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman on Thursday.


Addressing a press conference after Ruet’s meeting, Mufti Muneeb said testimonies of moon sighting had been received from the federal capital, Muzaffargarh, Jhang, Jacobabad, Sanghar, Okara, Buner, Swat, Zhob and Badin.  “On the basis of these testimonies, we announce that the Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Friday (today),” he said.

This is the first time after many years that the whole country is celebrating the festivities of Eid together on the same day.


On Thursday various zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees had also convened their meetings in the major cities of the country; while the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s meeting was held at the Meteorological Department in Karachi.

The official announcement of the sighting of the Shawwal moon was made after consultation with all the zonal committees.  Religious scholars of various sects including Qari Hanif Jalandhari, Mufti Ibrahim Qadri, Maulana Asad Deobandi, Hafiz Mohammad Salafi, Pir Syed Ali Shah Jilani, Mufti Abdul Sattar Haqqani, Maulana Syed Sabir Hasan, Maulana Sabir Noorani, Allama Ali Qarar Naqvi andMaulani Ferozuddin Rabbani attended the central committee’s meeting.

Mufti Munib extended gratitude to the religious scholars of Peshawar for their cooperation and help in the moon sighting meetings.
