A district and sessions judge has issued a show cause notice to a station house officer for not registering a case against a jail superintendent for allegedly tampering with official record and withholding a jail employee’s salary.
The notice was issued on Wednesday on an application filed by Mustafa Kamal, a doctor at the Multan district jail.
Kamal said he had found out that the jail officials were serving rotten meat to the inmates and embezzling funds allocated for their food.
He said he had informed the Anti Corruption Establishment, whose officials had raided the jail kitchen and discovered rotten meat. He said investigations were still underway in the case.
He alleged that the jail superintendent, Anjum Shah, had then developed a grudge against him and held his salary for the month showing him as a daily wage worker in BPS-5 in the salary record book.
He said on July 31 he had filed an application at the Chehlak police station against the superintendent for forging official record. He said a week had gone by, but Chehlak Station House Officer Inspector Tariq Pervaiz had not registered an FIR against the superintendent.
He said the SHO was helping Shah and trying to conceal facts.
Judge Sarwar Saleemullah issued a show cause notice to the SHO for August 15. He also ordered the police to register a case against the jail superintendent.

The SHO's ignore the orders of a court lower than the HIgh Court, because only the HIgh Court has the power to punish the SHO for disobedience. If we want SHO's to comply with orders by lower courts, we need to amend the law. If you agree, talk to your MPA and ask him to raise the matter in the Provincial Assembly.
Thanks to Pakistani judiciary for the courageous steps against mighty and horrible police forces.
