Alleged nepotism: SC Human Rights Cell seeks report of IIUI’s contractual employees
Permanent staffers blame varsity for making regular promotions extremely difficult.

ISLAMABAD:
The Human Rights Cell of the Supreme Court has sought a report from International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on the hiring of eight officers on contract after their retirement, allegedly in violation of SC orders.
The University Staff Welfare Association (USWA) submitted an application to the SC stating that the university, as an autonomous federal body, has clearly violated court orders by reemploying eight officers including vice president Dr Sahibzada Sajidur Rehman, a director, a professor, two assistant directors, administration officer, an additional director and a consultant — in various grades from 16 to 22.
Apart from the contractual officers, over 40 other staffers have also been hired on contract. “These employees have become a hindrance in the promotion of regular employees by occupying otherwise vacant seats. No proper measures have been taken to advertise these posts in the press,” said the application of USWA.
The Human Rights Cell has notified the university to submit the required documents of the employees to the court before August 24, 2013.
After the university submits the names to the registrar, the latter will look for discrepancies in the list. If any are found, they will be forwarded to the court by the registrar.
University sources were of the view that there had been no violation of laws and the process was transparent.
