KHAR:

In a first for the area, the watchman of a school along with members of the Lashora peace committee foiled militants’ attempt to attack a school in Khar.

Assistant Political Agent Asad Sarwar said he was informed about heavy firing on the outskirts of Khar around 12:30am and was later told that peace committee volunteers repelled the attackers. Abdul Qadir, the watchman of the boys primary school in Lashora, said the school was earlier destroyed by militants, and later reconstructed by the government.

“I was at the school at night when suddenly suspected militants lobbed a hand grenade inside the building. I couldn’t defuse the grenade, however, I opened fire at the men who were trying to plant a bomb at the boundary wall,” he said. Qadir added when peace volunteers heard the shots, they opened fire as well, forcing suspected militants to flee.

On Tuesday morning, Political Agent Abdul Jabar Khan visited Lashora and awarded Rs 10,000 to the watchman.
