‘Mercedes 2013 season very promising’
Executive director believes team has produced a great car this year.
Mercedes’ progress has given the team a ‘very promising’ future for the rest of the season, believed their executive director (technical) Paddy Lowe, according to ESPNF1.
Lowe was welcomed to the team just ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix and in wake of their win at the Monaco Grand Prix. Their progress was witnessed when the Mercedes’ race pace made an impact with the Pirelli tyres in use and the team won at both Silverstone and Hungaroring. The latter victory especially increased their enthusiasm to challenge for more victories.
While Lowe played down his own part in the side’s improvements, he said it had set them up well for the rest of the season.
“[The improvement is] not down to me,” Lowe told Sky Sports F1. “I’m trying to distance myself from that, but the team has produced a great car this year. There have been one or two problems which needed to be understood, particularly around race pace, but we’re clearly making progress.
“We’ve tried things. The team is very strong and has done a great job to understand the problems and adapt with a moving target because the tyres have kept changing. Hopefully we’ll have some stability now, and that is what is very promising for the races to come.”
