MUZAFFARABAD:

In what is the second case of domestic violence this week in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), a married woman was burnt to death allegedly by her in-laws in Bagh.

Rizwana Begum, 25, from Juglari in Bagh district, was allegedly killed by her mother-in-law Azada Begum with the help of her daughters Nageena Begum and Gurya Begum.

The trio allegedly doused Rizwana in petrol and set her on fire, causing eighty per cent burn injuries. The doctors in District Headquarters Hospital Bagh referred Rizwana to Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi where she lost the battle for her life.

Rizwana’s brother has accused his sister’s in-laws of killing his sister. “ We were informed  by neighbours about the incident while  Rizwana’s  in-laws tried their best to hide it which is proof enough that my sister was deliberately set on fire ,” said Naeem Tariq.

The police have not registered an FIR to investigate the incident which is unfortunate, he said. “We appeal to the prime minister of AJK, Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, AJK President Sardar Yaqoob Khan and AJK Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Azam Khan to provide us justice and punish the killers,” said Tariq.

Members of civil society condemned the murder and demanded the AJK government to arrest the murderers.

The police said that they are collecting information related to the incident and will file an FIR against the alleged killers.

On Wednesday, a mother of three children was brutally killed in Bahardi Pataykha by her husband for not giving him permission for a second marriage.
