Vigilance: Govt to introduce checks and balances

Industrial estates in Punjab should be exempt from load-shedding of gas and electricity, says LCCI president.

LAHORE: The Provincial Minister for Industries Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique has said that the government is planning to introduce a new monitoring system to improve the efficiency of all provincial departments. The Minister spoke at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Thursday. The new system of checks and balances is to help with the efforts to tackle the gas and electricity shortages. Shafique stressed that the new energy projects were taking time but also disclosed that a Turkish company had agreed to lay a pipeline from Karachi to Lahore in the next 15 months. LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar asked the minister to put all trade and industry related departments under the Industries Department as it would help bring transparency. The LCCI President said that the industrial estates in Punjab should be exempt from load-shedding of gas and electricity completely. Iftikhar said that the business community should be facilitated in these very difficult economic conditions. He said that the business community had high hopes and expectations from the government
