ISLAMABAD:
President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Zubair Ahmed Malik, President of the India Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (IPCCI) SM Muneer, and Vice President of FPCCI Gulzar Firoz welcomed and appreciated the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet to put a ban on the export of live animals with effect from October 1 2013. In a statement released on Wednesday they said that this ban had been longstanding demand of the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) and FPCCI had fully supported this demand in the best interest of the country. They said that by putting this ban on the export of live animals will allow tanneries get raw materials necessary for the survival of the sector, and also ease the availability of meat, milk and other by-products from livestock such as hides, bones, blood and tallow to many downstream industries.
