SWABI: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Awami National Party (ANP) on Wednesday discussed plans to ensure the success of their joint candidate from Swabi in the by-elections.

Leaders of both parties held a meeting and discussed conducting a joint election campaign for the candidate for NA-13 Swabi-II, Maulana Attaul Haq Darvaish. The meeting also finalised the formation of district committees.

In his address, Darvaish thanked the ANP for extending their support to him and said cooperation between political parties was the need of the hour to protect the country’s integrity.

The JUI-F and ANP will be contesting seven seats together. The JUI-F will support the ANP on two National Assembly seats and one seat in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, while the ANP will support the JUI-F on three National Assembly seats and one provincial assembly seat.

“This is not just an electoral cooperation, it is aimed towards the country’s prosperity,” he stated.  Darvaish further claimed he would secure a sweeping victory in the August 22 by-polls.

JUI-F District Secretary General Haji Hidayatullah has called another meeting on Sunday for further discussions on the election strategy.
