Khokrapar-Monabao border: World Bank asked to study trade promotion
KCCI suggests all facilities should be provided to boost trade with India.
KARACHI:
The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the World Bank Group on Trade and Transport Facilitation to undertake an assessment study on Khokrapar-Monabao border trade in an effort to start exchange of goods on the pattern of Wagah-Attari border Lahore.
Exchanging views with a delegation of the World Bank Group on Trade and Transport Facilitation, KCCI President Muhammad Haroon Agar praised the bank’s initiative to study the improvement in trade on the Wagah-Attari border.
Describing Pakistan Railways’ network as extremely weak, he said cross-border trade totally depended on road transport, but it was very costly due to high consumption of expensive fuel. This, he said, underlined the need of a study to revive Pakistan Railways for promoting trade with Afghanistan and India.
WB delegation group leader Diep Nguyen-van Houtte told businessmen that in response to Pakistan’s request for support in trade and transport facilitation, the bank’s initial scoping mission was on a visit to Pakistan to conduct site visits and hold discussions with the public and private sectors in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
