Road construction: Residents decry shoddy work
The residents alleges that the contractor has used highly poor material on the road.
ISLAMABAD:
The residents of Model Town Humak, an area on the outskirts of the federal capital, have appealed to the chief minister Punjab to take note of the use of ‘poor’ construction material on a road from Swan to Kak Bridge.
The chief minister allocated Rs440 million for the construction of the road last year. The residents alleged that the contractor has used highly poor material on the road and cracks have started to develop at various portions of the road after the recent monsoon rains.
Zaheer, a resident of the area, said that the contractor, after failing to meet the completion deadline of three months, had carried out the work in haste thus compromising construction quality.
Muhammad Afzal, another resident, alleged that the contractor had been given a free hand as no one monitored the carpeting process, as a result he used poor construction material. He said that the newly constructed road has broken at several portions.
