KARACHI:

Inter Provincial Coordination Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada warned parallel sports bodies against attempts to getting recognised sports federation banned at an international level.

The warning came during an executive committee meeting of the newly-formed Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).

“The Association will not tolerate any instigation on the part of parallel sports bodies if they attempt to prompt the international sports body into taking action against Pakistan,” said Pirzada. “Strict action will be taken against the culprits.”

He reassured the meeting that the government will support the POA and the new body would function according to merit.

Meanwhile, he urged the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to implement the National Sports Policy which does not allow any official to take office after completing his two four-year tenures into effect.

The official further stressed that financial grant to sports federations will be given once their audit is completed.

Pakistan to participate in Islamic Solidarity Games

POA President Akram Sahi has revealed that Pakistan will be taking part in the Islamic Solidarity Games which will be held in Indonesia in September.

“Pakistan will participate in Islamic Solidarity Games 2013; a sports camp will be held very soon,” said Sahi, adding that a talent hunt will also be started on a wide scale to discover potential athletes from the outskirts and villages of Pakistan.
