Hepatitis day: ‘Disease on the rise’
Consumption of contaminated water and unhygienic food were major reasons for hepatitis A and E.

“One in 10 Pakistanis has been affected by hepatitis,” Lahore General Hospital Assistant Professor Israrul Haq Toor said on Saturday in connection with World Hepatitis Day.
Toor said that 6-7% of Pakistanis were affected by hepatitis C and 2% from hepatitis B. He said the disease was on the rise across the world, especially in developing countries.
He said consumption of contaminated water and unhygienic food were major reasons for hepatitis A and E.
“Most people suffer from hepatitis B, C and D because of used syringes and unsafe blood transfusion,” he said.
He said that there was no vaccine for hepatitis C. “There should be an awareness drive about the disease,” he added.
