The incident happened in the Suntsar area of Gwadar district, 1,420 kilometres southwest of Quetta.
"Around 24 gunmen armed with rockets and heavy weapons, attacked the checkpost and killed seven coastguard officials," provincial home secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani told AFP.
He said at least seven coastguard officials were also injured in the early morning attack.
A local tribal police official Muhammad Ali also confirmed the attack and casualties and said the identity of the attackers was not immediately known.
Baluchistan suffers from both militancy and a regional insurgency which began in 2004, with rebels demanding political autonomy and a greater share of profits from the region's natural resources.

These Pakistani Coastguards were there to stop the Smuggling / Narcotics / Weapons so that our countrymen live safe, someone was definitely very disturbed due to the presence of coastguards and done a cowardly act of terrorism.

I condemn all sort of killings or acts of human rights but at the same time I request all the so called patriots to grow guts and condemn the killing of Baloch missing persons by army of 'Islamic Republic' as well. As far as Pashtuns are concerned, they are our brothers and we don't expect any sort of help from them which they resist. I am not a supporter of BLA or any other separatist organization but you can't look away from the truth, they are those people whose loved ones have been killed or abducted. Blaming it on RAW,MOSAD and so on will not only show your low mentality but your total ignorance on the subject. Try to be aware and lobby for truth before you need visa to enter Balochistan.

I'm Baloch and I condemn this. The BLA comprises of a minority of misguided people in our province who are playing in the hands of foreign intelligence agencies. The majority of Baloch are pro-Pakistan.

Ridiculous! number of attackers have been counted then from which area did they came,who gave them vehicles,weapons,selected the target and time of attack and also they returned to the place of origin,well then our intelligence agencies are impotent or some of them are involved.Going to gwadar area,attacking and then disappearing is not easy or simple,there is someone in the sleeves and doing double gaming with the all int set ups.
Its unfortunate that Punjabi coast guards have to man Balochistan's coasts. We need Balochis to man our coasts or else this is bound to happen again.
